Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
